This love is not eternal (2020)
This love is not eternal.
In the blinking of an eye this vernal
feeling sprung like buds on branches,
a hazy dream carried by a chance
meeting, the hope that fate would grant us
opportunity to bloom.
Our dance was always a dissonant mess,
missing a step
as you stepped on my feet and
wrote it off as being clumsy.
Our poem has no rhythm,
and yet without rhyme or reason
I still think of you when I’m with him.
You stray further from me each changing season
but just yesterday we were together,
you sketching the promise of forever
into my skin.
The minutes and hours and days and years started
Speeding,
Spinning,
I still standing,
stagnant,
musing about it.
Now I long to begin again, and
though I know that nothing good can last,
nothing gold can stay,
happiness can come and leave within a day,
still I run
from the drunken disillusionment
that we were not meant to be.
I tremble,
I fear to face that day we’re
finally free from the faulty dream
that plagued our pasts,
face the grim reality that not
all love lasts.
